Our experienced team of psychotherapists helps individuals, couples, and families, and works with children and youth too.
Therapy for English speakers
Many of our therapists are able to conduct psychotherapy sessions in English. Just let us know you need therapy in English. We'll be happy to pair you with a therapist who works in your language.
What to expect
Therapy requires more than one session. The total number of sessions and how often you meet are something you and your therapist decide together. Generally, your therapist works with you to lay out your direction and goals for the treatment. During the course of therapy, your therapist gauges the effectiveness of the process and, if necessary, may work with you to adjust your direction or goals. Online questionnaires that you complete after each session also help to keep track of how useful therapy has been for you.
As you speak, your therapist will jot down a few notes to help guide the conversation. For purposes of self-evaluation and education, some sessions may be videotaped. Both the notes and the video recording are strictly confidential. We take great care to handle them ethically and discreetly, and destroy them when they are no longer needed.
We do not write reports during the psychotherapy process for third parties (doctors, schools, etc.) unless you specifically request it. Report writing is charged separately, 500 CZK/hour.
Individual psychotherapy
Individual therapy is simply one therapist working with one client. Clients come for the most part with a desire to make a change, to find relief from suffering. Our therapists practice systemic therapy (solution-focused and narrative approaches) to help clients attain relief.
Couples therapy
Couples therapy serves not only married couples, but also adult parent-child dyads or adult siblings who need help and support in dealing with relationship issues. It is usually led by one therapist, but you can request a two-therapist team.
Family therapy
Family therapy helps to address issues that affect multiple family members. It can often be more effective to engage the whole family in addressing the distress and symptoms of a problem that are particularly visible in a single family member (e.g., a child) rather than working only at the individual level. One therapist or a two-therapist team (depending on the capacity of the center) works with the family.
Psychotherapy for children
Some of our therapists specialize on working with children and can work with parents to identify how best to involve them in the process. Parental involvement can take many forms, from being part of the direct work with the child, to being an observer and supporter, being a partner in struggling with a problem in the backdrop of daily life, or simply being an emotional support who sits in the waiting room while the child works with the therapist.
Online psychotherapy
Experience has shown that therapy conducted online can be just as useful as one held in person. Online meetings are a good way to get therapeutic support for people who cannot meet in person due to their health, geographical distance or other barriers.
Online sessions require that you find a nice quiet place with a good internet connection and no distractions. Because the online connection is provided by third parties (the application provider, your internet provider) the therapist cannot guarantee the functionality of the platform used, the quality of the data transmission or the security of the internet environment, etc. The therapist and the client work together to choose the best platform for their needs.
That said, for couple and family therapy, as well as therapy for children, in-person meetings are preferable.
